When Andrew McMahon told Entertainment Weekly that his new album would experiment with different genres and be a “completely new evolution” that he hasn’t done before, we weren’t sure exactly what to expect. Would writing a record on the east coast drastically impact its subject matter? Would piano rock still be at the core of Zombies On Broadway?
Fast forward half a year and many of the dots are finally connecting. The singer/songwriter who could have pigeon holed himself as a pop-punk artist with his first band, Something Corporate or his second band, Jack’s Mannequin, is now taking his artistry to a whole new level. From the happy-go lucky “Fire Escape” to the mostly spoken word “Brooklyn, You’re Killing Me”, Andrew is going somewhere he’s never gone before with his sound.
