The Boston Music Awards, the city’s most coveted music awards ceremony since 1987 took place on Thursday, December 8th at the House of Blues.

Throughout the night 12 local performers including The Hotelier, Contact, and Bearstronaut took to the stage, as nominees, friends, and fans gathered together in anticipation of the results.

Although this year’s nominees may have arguably been the strongest in BMA history, there could still only be one winner per category.

Boston indie-folk artists The Ballroom Thieves stole the night, taking home awards for Live Artist, Americana Artist, and Folk Artist of the Year. Meanwhile, electro-pop trio PVRIS, who has already had a massive 2016 coming off Lolapalooza and their first headlining tour, won Artist of the Year, as well as Song of the Year for their single “You and I.”

Worcester emo boys, The Hotelier came on top as well in the Punk/Hardcore Artist of the Year category despite some stiff competition from some of Boston’s finest rock bands including Actor|Observer, Rebuilder, Ascend/Descend, Choke Up, Somos, and Rebuilder.

Other notable wins included Leah V for DJ/Producer of the Year, Joshua Pickering for Best Music Photographer, and the Sinclair for Best Live Music Venue.
