On a massively rainy Friday night in mid-June, Rise Against and Deftones fans gathered on the Boston Harbor to soak up a bewitching night of music. Following sets from UK instrumental rockers Three Trapped Tigers and post-hardcore legends Thrice, the headliners took the stage.

This particular night saw the Deftones play ahead of Rise Against. Still riding the wave of last year’s release Gore, the band captivated the audience throughout their set, with vocalist Chino Moreno even going into the crowd at one point to high-five fans. The Deftones performed many crowd favorites from “Headup” to “My Own Summer (Shove It)”, and “Diamond Eyes” before closing out their set with “Rocket Skates”.

Then came Rise Against, whose often politically charged lyrics were matched by frontman Tim Mcllarth’s mid-set speech on the many issues our society is currently facing. The Sacramento punk band played a few newer tracks including their lead single “The Violence” off their eighth studio album Wolves (released on June 9th, 2017). Older hits like “Good Left Undone”, “Re-Education (Through Labor)”, and “Savior” also made their way into Rise Against’s powerhouse set.

LIKEYOUSAID photographer Richard Knowles braved the weather to shoot both of the night’s headliners. Check out our gallery from Rise Against and The Deftones at the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion on Friday, June 16th, 2017 below.
