Since its 1995 debut, Warped Tour has become as synonymous with summers for the punk rock community as beach days, fireworks, pool floaties, and trips to Six Flags have for just about any other young adult in the mainstream world.

The annual summer festival founded by Kevin Lyman has hosted some of the biggest names in music — Blink-182, Katy Perry, No Doubt, Eminem, Fall Out Boy, and Paramore to name a few. In addition to bringing dozens upon dozens of young and legendary bands to the stage each year, the Vans Warped Tour also strives to educate its youth on topics of social awareness, diet, health, music, and more.

Unlike Warped Tours in recent past, this year’s lineup has attracted fans of all ages to its amphitheaters and parking lots. This summer CKY, Anti-Flag, Big D and The Kids Table, Street Dogs, Stick To Your Guns, Silverstein, and GWAR made a reemergence at North America’s biggest traveling music fest. Meanwhile, Knocked Loose, Movements, Bad Cop/Bad Cop, Blessthefall, War on Women, Neck Deep, and Microwave fueled the fire for up and comers on the festival’s eclectic bill.

In the heat of boisterous crowds in Jersey and through the rainstorms that overlooked the outdoor stages at the Xfinity Center in Massachusetts, LYS photographer Richard Knowles was able to capture some of the best moments at four Warped Tour dates on the east coast: Camden, New Jersey (7/7/17), Hartford, Connecticut (7/9/17), Mansfield, Massachusetts (7/12/17), and Holmdel, New Jersey (7/15/17). He also spent some time backstage with Grecian grunge band Barb Wire Dolls.
