Last night the 58th Annual Grammy Awards were broadcast from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and while they lacked in some of the shocking moments of years past including Lady Gaga’s rebirth on the red carpet, Elton John and Eminem’s “Stan” collaboration, and JLo’s epic Versace dress, the performances were top notch — well, at least, most of them. Here are a few of our top picks from last night’s Grammys.

#5 – The Hollywood Vampries “Ace of Spades” Cover

“Many of us play rock ‘n roll, but very few of us are rock ‘n roll. Lemmy Kilmister was rock and roll”, Dave Grohl told the world, before introducing the all-star 1970s tribute group, consisting of Johnny Depp, Alice Copper, and Joe Perry AKA the Hollywood Vampires. The band honored the late Lemmy with a new song called “As Bad As I Am” and a powerful rendition of Motorhead’s definitive anthem, “Ace Of Spades”.

#4 – Lady Gaga’s Nine Song David Bowie Tribute

One of the best parts of David Bowie’s artistry was his ability to take on many different shapes and personalities. Who could capture this admirable trait better than Lady Gaga? Dressed in a sparkly leotard, with paint coating her face in honor of the Ziggy Stardust legend, Gaga soared through a nine song medley of Bowie classics including “Space Oddity”, “Changes”, “Ziggy Stardust”, “Suffragette City”, “Rebel Rebel”, “Fashion”, “Fame”, “Let’s Dance”, and “Heroes”.

#3 – Kendrick Lamar’s Fire-Starting Performance

With 11 Grammy nominations and 5 Grammy wins, including a sweep in the rap category, the night may have belonged to Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick wisely used his time on stage to make a loud statement about black identity and freedom. His moving performance found him standing before a map of Africa with the word ‘Compton’ at its center, and included his hit songs, “The Blacker The Berry” and “Alright”.

#2 – Gwen Stefani’s Live “Make Me Like You” Music Video Premiere

Gwen Stefani has done it again. Last night the ska-pop queen made history by creating the first ever live televised music video at the Grammys for her new single, “Make Me Like You”. The bubbly music video takes us to an Alice In Wonderland-like dreamworld where Gwen dresses herself in daring outfits, ride bikes, battles herself, and even brings us on what feels like a ’90s rollerskating adventure. Best of all, she hilariously pokes fun at the media and its obsession with her personal life. In one scene, we see her peering at a magazine that reads ‘Gwen Pregnant With Alien Baby’, while in another, she makes a pit stop at “Blake’s” diner on the way to her Grammy performance.

#1 -Dave Grohl Rocking Out To Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long”

…While holding a red solo cup, no less. Thanks Dave. You win. You had more fun than everyone else did at the Grammys this year. The awards all go to you.
